I struggle to find the words to describe what Amsterdam has done for me. If I hadn’t already realized that there’s so much more to this Earth than I was aware of, Amsterdam helped me further understand. Every corner of every street encouraged me to question the expansive history of the city. In short, I’ve enjoyed some of the most emotionally moving art, breath taking architecture, and a hippies retreat on every street. A city based on lack of rules and at times chaos consistently offers opportunity to get lost and move without purpose. You can say I fell in love but I’d prefer skipping the heartbreak of leaving such an astonishing city. On top of experiencing everything Amsterdam has to offer, we visited the Anne Frank House. Being Jewish, I have been told on several occasions that you can never learn enough about the holocaust and that there will always be more to learn. The Anne Frank House brought the already heartbreaking story of the Frank family into such a real perspective. If you don’t mind I’m going to take a second to be candid and say the museum brought me to tears. A quote from Anne’s diary before I move on “Unless you write yourself, you can’t know how wonderful it is; I always used to bemoan the fact that I couldn’t draw, but now I’m overjoyed that at least I can write. And if I don’t have the talent to write books or newspaper articles, I can always write for myself. But I want to achieve more than that.” Please let that sit for as long as you please but her words will live with me for forever. Anyways! We also got to get up close and personal with a museum filled with Banksy’s art taken directly off the streets. The museum that housed some the worlds most iconic graffiti exists on the grounds of “In Art We Trust” which sums up everything. I could ramble on for hours about the 2 days we had in Amsterdam but I digress. I will be back soon. But for now, PARIS!!!! Je suis très excité!!!!! Disney tomorrow, then FSU International Programs orientation on Saturday at 6!! Classes start Monday so maybe I should start brushing up on my french.....? However, thanks for reading! I miss everyone at home and school sooooo much wish you were all here and we could have these experiences together.

See you soon Paris 🇫🇷

Sounds like the joys and richness of Amsterdam have not been wasted on you. “International hippie haven,” was my byline apon leaving. I still think of vintage bicycles, fields of people going nowhere listenping to live music and of course Anne Frank’s house. Haunting in its realness and proof that no matter how many people try to rewrite history or deny the holocaust happened her house stands proving otherwise. Can’t wait to see Paris!
